I started meditating in the
70's along with my yoga practice. At that time, my teachers focused on
philosophy and meditation as much as asana practice which set the stage for my
further inquiry into deeper contemplation and reflections. I eventually
discovered the Theravadan Buddhist tradition of Vipassana, which means Insight,
and started meditating with this focus in 1989. I continue to practice this with
sitting, walking, and eating meditations, and extensive retreats. My
meditation experience includes the Stress-Reduction Program from the Center of
Mindfulness, University of Mass. Medical Center. I am currently teaching
Meditation for Memorial Hospital and Rocky Mt. Insight. Please see my Schedule.
My practice has been lovingly
supported by Rocky Mt. Insight sangha, a community of like-minded harmony. I am
thrilled to be now teaching meditation and benefit immensely from this role,
hoping that others benefit as well.
Yoga practice began in the
70's with some lapses through the 80's and serious return in the 90's resulting
in a year of Dru Yoga Teacher Training followed by a Kripalu Teaching
Certificate. I have been teaching since 1999 and enjoy it thoroughly.
My particular interest in
teaching has been Special Needs since in the middle of my yoga training, I was
diagnosed with breast cancer. I finished treatment and then my training,
knowing I wanted to connect with students who are having physical, emotion, and
spiritual challenges like I did. I work with all kinds of these diagnoses and
have approached them in a Yoga Therapy orientation with workshops and research
to round out my experience. It has been a great gift. I have been a member of
the International Association of Yoga Therapist (IAYT) since 2002.
Beginning and Mixed Level
classes are also a joy, especially introducing Yoga and all its elements to
beginner-mind students. Mixed Level classes present stronger and more flexible
poses along with deeper pranayama or breath experiences assisting the growth of continuing students.
I have been a licensed
massage therapist since 1999 and consider this an extension of my Yoga and
Meditation practice.
I am so grateful to work/play
at something I dearly love.
